World Champ Espen Jorstad Runs Deep in Another Main Event

Fresh off his 2022 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event title and $10 million win, Espen Jorstad made a deep run in another large field Main Event, this one in the 2022 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open (SHRPO).

The Norwegian poker pro who resides in the United Kingdom finished in 28th place out of 1,110 entries in the $5,300 buy-in SHRPO Main Event. That paid him $23,255, a far cry from his life-changing score in July, but the deep run was just further proof that the online poker star is now becoming a great live tournament player.

Jorstad won two bracelets this summer, the first teamed up with fellow online poker crusher Patrick Leonard in the $1,000 Tag Team event, a $77,000 payout per player.

The reigning world champion entered Monday's Day 3 session with 450,000 chips at the 15,000/25,000 blind level. He was well below the average stack and wasn't able to spin it up, but still put together another impressive run in a large field tournament. The 2022 WSOP Main Event had 8,663 entries, all of whom he outlasted, the second most in the tournament's 53-year history (there were 8,773 players in 2006).

What he did do with the modest score was use it to buy into another tournament:

On Monday, the SHRPO Main Event played down to a final table of seven players with the talented Justin Liberto leading the way at 13,625,000. When play resumes at 1 p.m. ET on Tuesday, there will be five minutes remaining in the 50,000/100,000 (100,000 big blind ante) level.

Chris Brewer, one of the top high rollers in the world, has the second largest stack with 9,700,000 chips. Ryan Gianquitti will be tasked with attempting to run his short stack of 1,275,000 (13 big blinds) up.

The winner of the SHRPO Main Event will take home $900,100 and an epic guitar tower trophy. Each of the remaining seven players has a guaranteed minimum payout of $154,185. James Mackey, who received $122,260, was the eighth place finisher on Monday, one spot shy of reaching the final table.
