Two 888poker Players Turn a Freeroll Into $22,140 Combined

Turing a small investment into a large score is one of the reasons tournament poker is so popular. But what about turning $0.00 into a four and five-figure sum? Now that is impressive.

That is exactly what 888poker players “happyhour1” and “Biggblue” did on July 18. This is the date 888poker launched the $2,100 buy-in $100K Gtd Big Shot High Roller. The tournament proved popular with 44 players buying in and purchasing 10 re-entries between them, which resulted in a $108,000 prize pool.

Two players will remember the inaugural Big Shot High Roller fondly, and it is not the two players who struck a deal when heads-up.

Canadian duo happyhour1 and Biggblue sat down with the same 10,000 starting stack as the other 42 entrants but there was something different about this pair of players. They were playing in the $2,100 event for free, having won their seats via a freeroll tournament. All they had invested was a little time during the freeroll, and here they were ready to play in a $2,100 buy-in event.

Neither player has much experience in such a high buy-in affair because they usually frequent tournaments where the buy-ins are in single digits. However, you would never have guessed because they played exceptionally well, and were fully deserving of their seat at the eight-handed final table.

Dominik Nitsche Bows Out

Each of the freeroll winners locked in $4,860 for their efforts by reaching the final table. That sum increased when “Tedson98” busted in eighth, and 888poker ambassador Dominik “888Dominik” Nitsche ran out of steam in seventh.

Sixth place was as far as Biggblue would progress. They crashed out in sixth and banked $6,480, which is an incredible return on a freeroll entry.

Two more players were eliminated, “WAFAL” of Denmark ($8,100) and “QuietMike” ($10,800) to leaving only three players in the hunt for the title. QuietMike must be another delighted 888poker player because he won his seat in this event for only $30 and that $30 swelled to more than $10,000!

This is where happyhour1 busted, in third place for an incredible $15,660! What an ROI that was! Literally zero to hero!

The tournament ended with two other Canadians striking a deal heads-up. “Zebest7r” officially finished second for $27,157 with “DosPoochies” locking up the title and a $29,542 prize.

Will You Win The July 25 Edition of the Big Shot High Roller?

The next $2,100, $100K Gtd Big Shot High Roller runs at 5:30 p.m. BST on July 25. You sit down with 10,000 chips, or 166 big blinds, and play to 12-minute levels. Late registration is open for 180 minutes, during which time up to three re-entries are permitted.

Of course, there are plenty of cut-price satellites feeding into the high roller, plus some freerolls for you to enter as you attempt to follow in the footsteps of happyhour1 and Biggblue in turning $0.00 into a bankroll-boosting score.
