Place | Player | Country | Prize |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Mustafa Ercan | Turkey | $377,115 |
2 | Tobias Duthweiler | Germany | $265,995 |
3 | Christophe Panetti | Switzerland | $173,120 |
4 | Fahredin Mustafov | Bulgaria | $124,075 |
5 | James Romero | United States | $93,020 |
6 | Iakov Onuchin | Russia | $74,385 |
7 | Halil Kezer | Turkey | $61,820 |
8 | Askar Bekbayev | Kazakhstan | $49,545 |
9 | Boris Kolev | Bulgaria | $37,120 |
Former WPT Vienna champion Boris Kolev was the final table’s first casualty. He lost a crucial coinflip with ace-king against the pocket queens of Halil Kezer to bow out in ninth, a finish worth $37,120.
A very short stacked Askar Bekbayev fell in eighth place before Kezer crashed out at the hands of Tobias Duthweiler. Kezer hit two pair, queens and sevens, on the river, but Duthweiler had turned a nine-high straight.
Sixth place went to Iakov Onuchin, who became another Duthweiler victim. Onuchin raised all-in with top pair and an open-ended straight draw only to discover Duthweiler was sat there with a Broadway straight and a royal flush redraw. Duthweiler improved to an ace-high flush on the turn, which left Onuchin drawing dead.
Bad Beat Eliminates Romero
American pro James Romero crashed out in fifth and banked the tournament’s last five-figure prize, $93,020. Romero can consider himself unlucky to bust how he did because he got his chips in good with ace-king versus the dominated ace-queen of Fahredin Mustafov. A queen on the flop proved enough to send Romero home earlier than he anticipated.
Mustafov fell in third despite winning Romero’s chips. Mustafov got his stack in with queen-seven and lost to the queen-ten of Duthweiler. A ten on the flop sealed Mustafov’s fate; the Bulgarian walked away with $124,075.
Heads-up was set when start-of-the-day chip leader Christophe Panetti saw his tournament end abruptly. Hoping to steal the blinds and antes, Panetti shoved with king-seven, and Ercan looked him up with ace-queen. An ace on the flop cemented Ercan’s lead, although Panetti picked up a straight draw on the turn. Ercan’s hand held, and Panetti made his way to the cashier’s desk to collect $173,120.
Ercan got the job done against Duthweiler in the one-on-one battle when the pair got their chips in preflop, Ercan holding pocket nines and Duthweiler pocket eights. The board provided no help to Duthweiler and he had to make do with the $265,995 runner-up prize, leaving Ercan to secure a cool $377,115 payday.
O’Dwyer Crowned $25K Super High Roller Champion
Steve O’Dwyer added the MILLIONS North Cyprus $25K Super High Roller title to his long list of poker accomplishment after he topped a compact but talented field.
Only four players got their hands on a slice of the $782,000 prize pool. Johan Guilbert continued his hot Cyprus form by finishing fourth in this event for $109,400. Guilbert was in Cyprus for the Super High Roller Bowl Europe festival where he won one event for $506,250 and finished third in another for $560,000.
Hungarian grinder Laszlo Bujtas was the next player to fall by the wayside. His latest deep run resulted in his bankroll swelling by $140,760.
Bujtas’ exit left Viktor Ustimov and O’Dwyer heads-up for the lion’s share of the prize pool. It was O’Dwyer who emerged victoriously, doing so with $312,800 reasons to be delighted. Ustimov’s bridesmaid finish came with a $218,960 payout.
