Wisconsin's Josh Reichard Becomes Tenth Player Inducted Into MSPT Hall of Fame

The Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) Venetian Main Event wrapped up this week and saw Wisconsin's Josh Reichard finishing in 51st place to pick up his 26th MSPT Main Event cash. Reichard, whose first MSPT cash dates back to 2012, is the just the tenth player to earn a spot in the exclusive MSPT Hall of Fame.

The Green Bay Packers hat-sporting grinder joins fellow Hall of Famers Jason Seitz, Rob WazWaz, Blake Bohn, Patrick Steele, Mark Hodge, Aaron Johnson, Richard Alsup, Kou Vang and Matt Kirby, who was inducted earlier this year.

"Having a Good Time"

The MSPT Hall of Fame is reserved for veteran players with accomplished MSPT careers. The criteria to earn a spot on the MSPT Hall of Fame is as follows:

  • Achieve a minimum of 25 MSPT Main Event Cashes and 1 MSPT Win OR 1 MSPT Player of the Year; or
  • Achieve a minimum of 10 MSPT Main Event Final Tables and 1 MSPT Win OR 1 MSPT Player of the Year

Reichard, who has had six MSPT Main Event final table appearances and $304,345 in career MSPT earnings, took down the MSPT Ho-Chunk Casino Main Event back in 2013 for $78,003 to knock out the first requirement for Hall of Fame eligibility.

In July, Reichard finished 36th in the MSPT Iowa Main Event for $4,172 and his 25th MSPT Main Event cash, earning him a spot in the elusive Hall of Fame.

Reichard told PokerNews he felt “super cool to join a group of great players and make the MSPT HOF."

"I’ve been playing MSPT since before I even turned 21," he said. "I love the midwestern roots."

While Reichard's poker accomplishments extend far beyond the MSPT — he has 12 World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) rings to be tied in second place on the all-time list — he said the tour holds a special place in his heart.

"The most important part of heading out to a poker stop is having a good time while you’re there," Reichard said. "You can always expect that at the local midwestern MSPT stops. I look forward to playing it for years to come, and of course adding some titles along the way!”

Reichard returned with a vengeance the following year and won the event outright for $78,003, getting through a field of 305 runners and defeating heads-up opponent Mark Borns.

While he has yet to win a second MSPT title, Reichard's consistent final table appearances are evidence that another one could always be right around the corner for him.
